Blogging SEO Tips for Business
SEO, or search engine optimization, is not always easy, but there are some common rules to make sure the search engine can find your content when it is searched. SEO, even for a blog, is important to your customers and prospects because they need to find you. Here, we will present some blogging SEO tips to make your blog the best it can be.
NOTE: We are NOT discussing the optimization for the domain name and themes because these are a different topic. If you need help, please contact us at Premier Business Advantage where we specialize in helping get businesses on the map.
Be Selective In Each Post’s Core Idea
Limit each post title to one core idea that centers on one or two “long-tail” keywords. Technically, they are key phrases of two or three words, like “plumber Denver Colorado” or perhaps “Indonesian food San Francisco”. The keyword for this entry would be “Blogging SEO Tips”. Please note: keywords should not contain any stop words.
Use Those Keywords In The Title AND Body
The keywords should appear in the title, the URL, and in the body of the blog. SEO is about the search algorithm being able to guess the meaning and relevance of your page. Be sure to have the keyword in the first paragraph of your blog of optimum results.
According to an official Google statement as of 2016, “more than 50 percent of search queries globally now come from mobile devices”. In fact, if your website is not optimized for mobile, Google will not list it at all in search engine results.
Use The Meta Descriptions Too
Each webpage has a “meta-description” tag which lets you choose which 200-300 characters should the search engine show, instead of letting the search engine choose. You should use that to summarize the page to let the search result readers determine if they should click through. Be sure to include your keyword in this meta description.
Use the Alt-Text
One of the often neglected areas of SEO is the alt-text of every image you include. Rename the picture to search-friendly name as well. Instead of IMG68125.JPG, rename it to “GoldenGateBridgeSunset.JPG” and ALT-text should read something like “Golden Gate Bridge at Sunset from South Vista Point, 08-AUG-2018, San Francisco, California, USA”. Now the search engine knows exactly what the image is.
Organize the URLs Hierarchically
Your blog should be organized as home, categories, then sub-categories, each with the URL reflecting the hierarchical nature of the website organization. If your URL is MyblogX.com/CategoryA/SubcatF, then it is very obvious that SubCatF is a part of CategoryA. This lets search engine organize the search better.
